3 ways to capture sciatica patients

More than three million cases of sciatica are reported yearly. You probably already see a lot of sciatica patients in a week, but there are so many more patients out there who could be choosing you over other treatment methods and your competitors.

1. Offer something different.

In 2014, 45,200 chiropractors were employed in the U.S., and the profession is growing. To set yourself apart from other chiropractors and get a greater share of the available patients, particularly sciatica patients, you may want to consider offering something that your competition is not.

Patients experiencing sciatica’s terrible pain and discomfort may be reluctant to visit a chiropractor because they perceive manual methods as involving a lot of popping, cracking, and twisting. Sciatica patients may also have difficulty climbing onto a treatment table for manual therapy. PulStar doctors can avoid these problems completely by relying on the gentle pulses of the PulStar device to provide pleasant, computerized treatment, and patients can walk right up to the treatment stand to receive their adjustment.

2. Step up your MD-to-DC referral game.

When a patient first experiences sciatic nerve pain, unless they already have an established relationship with a chiropractor, they are likely to visit their PCP first. The PCP then decides on the course of treatment, which could range from physical therapy to medications to injections, but PCPs could also be sending patients your way if you have established relationships with them.

As you may know, getting into a physician’s referral network is no small task. Check out our Key Links on the right to see what the experts say about earning (and keeping) referrals from other doctors.
The PulStar software makes it easier to build strong relationships with MDs. The computerized system tracks even the slightest adjustment performed on a patient while also tracking a patient’s improvement in the analysis mode. Then, the report generator lets you be transparent and thorough while reporting to an MD about the patient’s progress.

3. Don’t be afraid to own it.

Your competitors are treating sciatica, too, so you need to make sure that you become THE chiropractor to go to for treatment.

Here are some ideas for you to put your sciatic nerve pain expertise in the public eye:

  • Make sciatica a topic of conversation on your social media outlets. Share or generate your own content on Facebook and Twitter, and consider writing a blog post about your experiences treating the condition.
  • Collect and publish testimonials from your sciatica patients. Use the testimonials on your website, or use them in a press release to your local news outlets to try to raise awareness of sciatica and chiropractic treatment.
  • Speak at seminars or hold a class for sciatica patients to help the public understand the condition and the treatment options.
