The PulStar is intended for use by chiropractors, physical therapists and physicians for mobilization of the spine. Sale and use of the device is restricted to licensed practitioners.
Indications for use
Musculoskeletal pain due to joint subluxation, restricted joint mobility, joint fixation, myofascial spasm and ligamentous strain.
Cautions
Use the lowest settings possible to get the result you want. On every patient, start with the lowest settings and increase gradually.
Take extreme care with the repetition settings, especially in the cervical spine.
Avoid high forces on children and older patients.
The analysis is not a diagnosis. Only a clinician can diagnose a patient and decide when, where and whether to treat. Use the analysis together with other information about the patient.
Pacemakers and defibrillators: treating patients with an implanted pacemaker or defibrillator is not recommended.
Complications
Overly aggressive percussive therapy can cause superficial bruising. No other complications are known to result from use of the PulStar. Complications identified for manipulative therapy in general include those arising from unrecognized tumors or metastases, delayed diagnosis and treatment, cauda equina syndrome, and paraplegia from meningeal hematoma.
Contraindications
Use the PulStar only on sound skeletal structures. Don't use it on:
Fractures
Bones that can't bear body weight because of disease
Cranial and facial sutures
Soft tissue including the eyeball, testicles, mammary glands, ovaries and auditory canal
Radiographic contraindications include, but are not limited to:
Neoplastic disease of the skeletal or soft tissue of the spine
Bone diseases including infections (such as discitis, osteomyelitis and tuberculosis), Paget's disease and severe osteoporosis
Inflammatory arthritis, such as ankylosing spondylitis and rheumatoid arthritis
Septic arthritis
Acute or unhealed fractures
Achondroplasia
Electrical safety
Plug the PulStar only into a properly grounded three-prong outlet, and check every outlet in the treatment room with an AC line analyzer. An ungrounded electric table or instrument can be dangerous to you and your patients.
Use the outlets on the back of the PulStar only for the computer and monitor supplied with the system. Don't connect a power strip to them.
Place the PulStar so that its power cord can be unplugged easily, and so that you can't touch the control unit and the patient at the same time.
Leave slack in the impulse head cord. If any wires in the cord become exposed, stop using it and contact Sense Technology for repair.
The impulse head is a type BF applied part, isolated from the mains. Don't modify the equipment.
No significant electromagnetic interference is known in a normal office. With networked printers or networked PulStar systems, a wired Ethernet connection may work better than Wi-Fi.
