Cleaning

Test the PulStar every month

Repeatable results depend on a working instrument. Once a month, test it on your own hand:

  1. Start a session (New Session on the start screen is fine) and click the thoracic region of the chart to start measuring there.
  2. Place the impulse head on the heel of your hand, near the wrist, and take four readings.
  3. Move to the palm of your hand and take four more readings.
  4. Move to a fingertip and take four more readings.

Your results should look similar to this example. The bars step down from the heel of the hand, to the palm, to the fingertip, and the bars for each spot are close to each other.

Example pre-analysis chart from the hand test: long, even green bars at T1 to T4 for the heel of the hand, shorter bars at T5 to T8 for the palm, and the shortest bars at T9 to T12 for the fingertip.
Example hand test results

The exact values don't matter, since every hand is different. If your results don't resemble the example, the instrument may need recalibration or the sensor may be damaged; call Sense Technology at +1 724-733-2277, with the serial number ready.

Service and repair

The only service you can do yourself is checking and replacing the two fuses in the power entry module on the back of the PulStar:

  1. Unplug the power cord.
  2. Check that the voltage shown in the window of the power entry module matches your mains voltage.
  3. With a small screwdriver, open the fuse compartment cover and pry out the fuse holder.
  4. Check the fuses for charring, or test them with an ohmmeter. Replace them with 250 V, 5 A type T-50A S506 fuses for 115 V mains, or 250 V, 2.5 A type T-50A S506 fuses for 230 V mains.
  5. Put the fuse holder back so that the correct voltage shows in the window.

All other maintenance, calibration and repair must be done by a Sense Technology certified PulStar repair center. Have the system serviced every 3 years. Call Sense Technology at +1 724-733-2277 to find the nearest repair center.
